Adefris Geletu began his affiliation for fine arts since his childhood during which he drew different pictures on the sandy ground of a playing field, and he created sculptures using mud molding. Geletu’s background in Theology and his stay with souvenir houses helped him to specialize in culturally valuable religious and traditional arts.
Geletu has been creating breathtaking designs of rich traditional arts by adding unique modern flavors by applying different media including carved woods, canvas, leather, silver and the like. His peculiar decorative carved wood art products are popular among traditional art collectors.
Moving lines inspire Geletu’s moods and textures in his paintings. He incorporates traditional icons and ‘Tibeb’. He explores and develops new ways of artistic expression, that is traditional iconographic arts with a modern touch. Geletu expresses that he “feels alive especially when he stands in front of canvas with painting brush in hand.”
Geletu has participated in competitions and group art shows in Addis Ababa.
