Fasil Assefa was born on jan 27 and grew up close to Merkato. Which is considered the busiest sub-city of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Home to…. people, the scenes of Merkato have greatly influenced his work. One of the largest open-air markets in Africa. The vibrant colors and chaos of this bustling city has been a constant inspiration to Fasil especially in his series of paintings as shown below. These Merkato scenes reflect the energy and adventure of the Merkato while at the same time capture moments of solitude within the chaos. Assefa graduated from Abyssinia fine art school then pursued his studies in Alle school of fine art and design AAU 2005-2007, then majored in paintings from 2008-2011 at ETVT college of fine arts. During his studies, Fasil was ready to exhibit his paintings in solo art exhibition. This collection of work titled ‘colors of Millennium’ was held at the imperial hotel. The exhibition was a huge success and opened the door for Fasil to pursue his passion as a full-time artist. Through out the last fifteen years, Fasil has showcased both locally and internationally.
